Kobiety jak kwiaty:)

Wieki mijają, a tu wciąz tylko zapach czeskich sąsiadów i Kukiza. Tymczasem wiosna za pasem (The Spring is here), następna. Podobno przynajmniej... bo z tą wiosną to coś jak z tymi kobietami ;) :

Sobota rano spać nie możesz Saturday morning, you cannot sleep
Wstaniesz, kapcie włożysz You get up, put on the sleepers
Potem się golisz tylko dla niej Then you shave, just for her
I do łóżka śniadanie And bring her breakfest
Przynosisz jej z porannym słonkiem to her bed, with morning sun
Po to by małżonkę To convince your dear wife
Namówić na co nieco małe to a little something;)
"No chyba zwariowałeś! "Are you crazyyy?!!"

Kobiety jak te kwiaty, kto żonaty ten wie Women are just like flowers, who's married that one knows
Powąchać tak, dotykać nie You can smell but you can't touch
Minęła pora godowa, The honey moon is over
Teraz tylko boli głowa. Now there's just the headache

Kobiety jak te kwiaty, nie podniecaj się Women are like flowers, don't get your hopes up
Powąchać tak, dotykać nie You can smell but you can't touch
Gdy przyjdzie wiosna When the Spring will come
Przyjmij ten cios na klatę. take this punch on your chest. (accept it)

Ona ogląda się za tymi She looks at those guys
No wiesz, lepiej ubranymi you know, those better dressed
Bo to prawdopodobnie geje Becuase they are probably gay
Tak, taką masz nadzieję. Oh yeah, you wish that, don't you
Wydasz ostatnie zaskórniaki You spend your last savings
Bo chcesz nadrobić braki To fill out this gap
A ona wzrusza ramionami And she shrugs
Więc przykro ci czasami. and it hurts, sometimes.

Kobiety jak te kwiaty, kto żonaty ten wie Women are like flowers....
Powąchać tak, dotykać nie
Minęła pora godowa,
Teraz tylko boli głowa.

Kobiety jak te kwiaty, nie podniecaj się
Powąchać tak, dotykać nie
Gdy przyjdzie wiosna
Przyjmij ten cios na klatę,
Jeszcze gorzej będzie latem. Summer will be even worse.

Syn przed maturą, kawał chłopa Your son, high school graduate
Znów zabrał ci laptopa, took your laptop again
Że niby chodzi tu o szkołę Pretending it's about the school
A nie o baby gołe and not naked women
Raz go nakryłeś z taką małą Once you caught him with that sweet girl
Dżizus, co za ciało Jesus, what a body!
Mówi "I tak się z nią ożenię" He says: "I'll still marry her"
Znów skacze ci ciśnienie and your pressure goes up again

Kobiety jak te kwiaty (...) x2 Women like flowers...

Zbyszek Zamachowski is one of the greatest Polish actors, with a special energy and this amazing charm that nobody (ok, no woman at least) can resist:)

Grupa MoCarta (the name referring to Mozart) is a group of talented musicians who wanted to have more fun with classical music and created an unique comedian-musician-group that is just adored in Poland.

Sąsiedzi

The Czech movies in Poland became at some point a culture thing. The solidarity or simply no other choice of sharing what we have with other communistic at that time countries.
In Czech movies, nobody ever knows what is going on. We even have a saying: "czeski film" and use it whenever something is confusing and... just like a Czech movie;)

Want to understand the Czech logic? One of the greatest, funniest ever cartoons loved in Poland forever: "Sąsiedzi" (Neighbors). No Kylie Minogue or Jason Donavan, but those two guys could compete with both of them and I am really not sure if they wouldn't win;)))

Polska Muzyka 1: Kukiz

My number one in all Polish music is always... Kukiz. Paweł.

An absolutely unique personality and musician with a very personal touch and way of expression. He doesn't pretend ever somebody he's not. Unbelievably honest, open, painfully direct, when needed.

Started with a band called (and unfortunatelly, almost unknown) HAK, always fascinated with the electronic music.

Then his famous AYA RL with similar electronic influence, developed in a little different direction.

And one of the most famous Polish songs ever: Skóra. A legend. A symbol. An incredibly universal voice. Never forgotten. Paweł said many times that was his best text ever.

His EMIGRANCI created a few great Polish hits that are played in the radio stations till today, being a part of the greatest Polish old rock history.

And finally the most important and significant voice of Kukiz: the group PIERSI with its punk-rock approach to express the deepest care of Kukiz about the constantly humiliated (mostly by our government) country the most, however, touching many other life topics, bringing tears and laughs in the same amount.

Being basically a punk-rocker, forgotten from his electronic side and never really understood from his very sensitive (he is a cancer!!) and romantic side (i.e. his co-work with Jan Borysewicz), he is a musician and a person who surprises and amazes me for a second decade already.

And "Kujawiak", my absolute favorite and Paweł's, too:))) A song that I met his music and himself through... From Jarocin 93', delicoious:)

And another one.... so pure, so strong, so kukizyyyy...

"Leżę" - that one to experience live is a real something... Always great, hard to choose one version, but this one is probably the best...

"Maryna" form his first movie (a great one, of course) "Girld Guide"...

And from the same movie, an old one "Chodź tu miła..."

"...krowy ryczą, świnki śmierdzą w chlewie..."

I love this description of his album...:) "ja pisałem tesksty, więc rewelacja"

And much newer, from the last album...

Or "Policja", so true...

And I cannot skip a very popular one (not my favorite, though) "Całuj mnie" with a nice American accent;)

...and I could list here his songs without an end... A great personality, Pole, artist.

Związki Frazeologiczne i Przysłowia

What is the most fascinating and thrilling thing in a language? - Those parts of it, which are not translatable. They give a lot of trouble on the beginning of learning a foreign language but once we "get" them, they make us incredibly happy, somehow rich, like we would get something much more than just learning a new world - we would get a power of understanding something almost understandable. The language is, in fact, more about FEELING it rather than understanding words, which understand unfortunately or maybe very fortunately only those who know what is that feeling.

In Polish those "idiomatic expressions" are called "związki frazeologiczne" - yes, to make it harder, exactly. "Sayings" are "przysłowia".

My favorite ones that I just love to teach my students are:

"pic na wodę" - a delicate way of saying that something is just a lie, a crap or one very popular English word refering to something belonging to a bull:) Basically, when we don't believe a word what someone is saying OR when something is a very bad imitation of something that it pretends to be.

"koń by się uśmiał" - lit. "a horse would laugh", actually: "enough to make a cat laugh"; used, when something is just rediculous, not possible etc.

"nie dać sobie dmuchać w kaszę" - lit. not to let someone to blow into your groats; really means: not to let anybody to push you around

"marzenie ściętej głowy" - "a pipe dream", not possible to happen

"nie dla psa kiełbasa" - lit. "the sousage is not for a dog", related to the one above, about something too good to be true or too good for someone in particular

"porywać się z motyką na słońce" - lit. to go to the sun with a hoe; really in English: to eat more than one can chew; another one from the series about impossible things to achieve that are very common in the "Polish school";)

More will come:)

Mapa Polski

Dla bardziej wnikliwych bardzo ciekawa mapa Polski... prawdziwa!!!!

For more sharp observers - a very interesting, REAL map of Poland:) Polish last names and towns usually mean something. There are many small towns named in the most funny way, many people are even ashamed to say it out loud! Different stories or rather legends for all of them - all that makes Poland and Polish culture even more interesting...

Do dzieła:)

How should I start? From the middle perhaps? From a song? Or from a saying? Let's try with the last one:

"ni z gruszki ni z pietruszki" - literal translation: "neither form a pear nor from a parsley", the actual meaning: like from nowhere.

Use in a very colloquial language, maybe even in a local slang only.

Phrases like that are the most fascinating part of the language for me. And I assume every language is full of them. I will be listing more.

A teraz piosenka:

and a fill in the blanks for practicing your listening skills:)
